2024 was a historic year for East Tennessee State University. So much has occurred that it can be difficult to keep track of the many milestones and accomplishments we achieved over the past 12 months. This was a year that presented challenges and hardships in the wake of a devastating storm. It was a year full of momentum, with the launch of new programs and curricula, the continued physical transformation of campus, and numerous examples of members of our Buccaneer family shining on some of the world's biggest stages. And it was a triumphant year, as the campus community made measurable, visible advances toward the university’s mission to improve the quality of life for the people of the region and beyond.
This year has been a powerful reminder of what it means to be a Buccaneer. To help us reflect on our journey, we have compiled 15 images to create our 2024 Year in Photos.
Though far from exhaustive, this list of moments, big and small, paints a picture of the pride, resilience, innovation, and connection that have shaped the last 12 months at ETSU.
In this year's holiday video, Bucky is taking his ETSU spirit to the Big Apple! 🎺✨ Join Bucky, the ETSU Marching Bucs, and other members of the ETSU family as they celebrate the holidays in style with a historic performance in the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade—the first collegiate band from Tennessee in over 60 years to be invited!
From taking in the wonder and joy at ETSU’s Holiday Lighting Ceremony to exploring the magic of New York City—including stops at the world-famous Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center —this festive journey blends the excitement of the city that never sleeps with the heartwarming traditions of home.
On behalf of the entire university community, I would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the ETSU Marching Bucs on their journey to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Whether you donated, helped spread the word, were among the crowd cheered loudly at the send-off, or simply shared your excitement with us, your support bolstered us every step of the way. Thank you for being a part of this incredible milestone in ETSU history. Go Bucs, and happy holidays! ✨
In recognition of the diligent efforts of our faculty and staff, ETSU employees will be granted an additional administrative leave day on Monday, December 23, to extend the holiday break and university closure. Please be aware that this closure will affect different areas of campus in unique ways:
Faculty and staff who are required to work — such as university employees in the clinical environment — will have the opportunity to take this time off at a later date. This deferred leave must be taken by February 28, 2025.
On December 23, employees should mark an "L" on their timesheets for 7.5 hours. Employees unable to take this time off should record an "L" on their timesheet when the deferred leave is taken.
Should you have questions, please contact Human Resources at hr@etsu.edu.
